Silk Care Instructions
Sourced directly from our atelier in Vietnam, each NIKITA silk piece is developed in-house and finished for the way it moves, drapes, and catches light.
NIKITA silks are woven from natural fibres: charmeuse, chiffon and habotai, finished by hand. Silk is breathable, fluid, and responsive to the body. With care, it lasts decades.
A living material, silk may soften, shift, and develop a deeper surface over time. Minor variations in weave, tone and texture are part of its nature, not a flaw. They reveal the handwork behind each piece.
Protect It From Heat And Friction
Silk is sensitive to heat, light and abrasion. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, bright windows, radiators or warm surfaces can weaken fibres, fade colour and alter the hand.
Avoid contact with rough textures, sharp jewellery, sequins, Velcro, or anything that may catch or abrade the surface. Friction is the fastest way to dull silk's natural lustre.
Keep It Away From Bad Influences
Perfume, deodorant, hairspray, alcohol-based products, oils and makeup can stain, weaken or discolour silk permanently. Apply these before dressing and allow them to dry completely.
Dark or raw textiles may rub colour onto lighter silks, and moisture can leave water marks. Treat the garment as a finished surface, not a fabric that can be spot-cleaned at home.
Let It Rest
Store on a wide, padded hanger in a cool, dry wardrobe away from direct light. For longer storage, fold loosely between sheets of acid-free tissue.
Avoid plastic garment bags, which trap humidity; silk needs to breathe. Leave enough space so the piece is not crushed or sharply folded.
Give It The Attention It Deserves
Do not machine wash, hand wash, or use household stain removers unless your garment's care label specifically instructs it. Professional dry clean only is the safest way to preserve NIKITA silk.
